State of Admission:  Tennessee

Education:  Nathan earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, where he graduated in May of 2000 with distinction.  Nathan obtained his Juris Doctorate at the University of Mississippi School of Law where he graduated magna cum laude in December of 2010.  While in law school, Nathan was an Executive Articles Editor with the Mississippi Law Journal and a teaching assistant for Civil Procedure. 

Legal Experience:  Prior to being admitted to the Tennessee Bar, Nathan worked as a summer law clerk for one of Tennessee’s largest insurance defense firms.

Awards/Professional Recognition: While in law school Nathan received the Outstanding Student Award for Corporations and was a recipient of the Earl W. DeHart Memorial Scholarship, awarded to the student demonstrating promise in the field of Labor and Employment Law.

Employment History:  As a manufacturing leader with one of the world’s largest automotive companies, Nathan led hourly and salaried employees in accomplishing safety, quality, and throughput objectives for final vehicle assembly.  Nathan also formed part of an elite launch team that successfully brought new vehicle operations to Spring Hill, TN.  Nathan’s experience gave him an understanding of the intricacies of working within a union environment and the challenges posed by enactments such as the ADA, the FMLA, Title VII, and Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Laws.

Publication:  Nathan received the 2009-2010 Outstanding Casenote Award for his review of the United States Supreme Court’s Title VII decision in Ricci v. DeStefano.  Nathan L. Barrett, Recent Decision, Ricci v. DeStefano, 129 S. Ct. 2658 (2009), 79 Miss. L.J. 467 (2009).

Community Involvement:  Nathan is a member of First Baptist Church Oxford, where he sings in the Choir.

Family:  Nathan and his wife, Kari, reside in Oxford along with their dog, Suzie.  Kari is a teacher at Oxford Elementary School.
